Hometown San Augustine, TX. Descendent of early Texians Jacob Garrett, William Crouch, Adam Smith and Matthew Newton.
Graduated from SFA with a BA degree in Elementary Education in 1969 and a Master degree from SHSU in Library Science in 1981.
Served on the mission field with FUMC of San Augustine in Columbia, South America 1968-1969. I am a member of and church Librarian for First Baptist Church Conroe.
I came to Conroe in 1970 to teach for CISD and to marry John Hicks, a native Conroite.
We have four children: Spencer and wife, Deanna; Matt and wife, Jenna; Wendy and Paul. We are blessed with five grandchildren Walker, Tanner, Kaylee, Wyatt and Denver.
We built and operated Tops and Bottom Jeans in Conroe, 1971-1976, and Hicks International Printing Company in Huntsville, 1976 – 2002.
Active in several community organizations including Little League and Boy Scouts of America leader of Troop 143.
I was Organizing (1981) and two time Regent of Coushatti Trace Chapter National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, DAR Outstanding Jr. Member of Texas and am currently Literacy Promotion State Chairman.
I serve as Vice President of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, The Judge Nathaniel Hart Davis Chapter and Recording Secretary of The United Daughters of 1812, Thomas Bay Chapter.
