TEXAS HONORED DAUGHTER AND RECORDING SECRETARY GENERAL – THE NATIONAL SOCIETY DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 and is the world’s largest women’s hereditary service organization. The DAR is dedicated to serving God, Home, and Country by promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education. The National Society’s membership is 169,000 members from the United States of America and abroad with Texas having more than 15,000 members.
Lynn Forney Young is a fourth generation native Houstonian and a fourth generation DAR member, having joined the Tejas Chapter in 1977. She has the unique honor of being the only member in Texas named State Outstanding Conference Page, Outstanding Chapter Regent, Outstanding Junior and Honorary Junior. She has served as National President of the Outstanding Junior club and the State Vice Regents’ Club. Lynn has also served as Senior State President of the Children of the American Revolution, National chairman, Americanism Committee, and State Regents’ Dinner 2008-2009, State Recording Secretary, State Chaplain and State Vice Regent.
Lynn served as State Regent of the Texas Society 2006-2009 and completed three major projects: Today’s DAR, the premier exhibit of DAR Museum Quilts at the International Quilt Festival/Houston, and the erection of a monument to the patriots of the American Revolution buried in Texas. Additionally, the generous Texas Daughters raised over $50,000 for the restoration of the Texas Governor’s Mansion.
Lynn and her husband, Steve, have a son, Walker, who is a student at Wake Forest University and a daughter, Linsey, a former teacher, who is the mother of her two beautiful grandsons, Cade and Jake.
