Pat Spacky is proud to be the great, great, great granddaughter of Dr. Charles Bellinger Stewart, the designer of the Lone Star Flag of Texas. She is retired from the staff of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas where she worked for 20 years. As a professional photographer, she had her own business in Dallas, specializing in wedding photography for over 25 years. Retirement meant a move to Montgomery County in 2006 which has given her the opportunity to volunteer and serve the community while celebrating her heritage and her love of Texas History. She is President of the Judge Nathaniel Hart Davis chapter, The Daughters of the Republic of Texas and has served on the state Education Committee and is Regent of the Heritage Trails chapter, The Daughters of the American Revolution.
Pat has served the DAR in the Texas Society as State Hospitality chairman and currently as the Vice-Chairman of the Women in American History committee. Since moving to The Woodlands, Pat has presented over 125 programs on her beloved Texas History to school children and patriotic and civic organizations. Dressed in period costume, she portrays her great, great, great grandmother, Julia Shepperd Stewart and shares the story of the Stewart family during the days of the Republic of Texas. She includes the Shepperd family in her presentations as she also descends from W. W. Shepperd, Julia’s father, who was the “Founder” of the Town of Montgomery. In addition to her service to the DAR and The DRT, Pat is a founding member and officer of the Texas Heritage Society and is a member of the Montgomery Historical Society, where she volunteers each year during the Christmas in Historic Montgomery celebration and the Texas Independence Day celebration.
She supports the efforts at Washington-on-the Brazos with membership in the Star of the Republic Museum. She is a past officer and served on the History Book Committee for the Montgomery County Genealogical and Historical Society and is a donor and “Friend” of the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County, the Nat Hart Davis Museum in Montgomery, the Lake Conroe Rotary Club’s Memory Park project, and the Charles B. Stewart Library. Pat and Ted are members of The Church at Alden Bridge in The Woodlands, where she serves as a greeter, preschool teacher, photographer and Publicity Chairman. Pat has had the opportunity to do volunteer work in the community by helping with the “Feeding the Frontier” fundraiser to benefit the Montgomery County Food Bank and by serving at the Fisher House and the Michael E. DeBakey Veteran’s Hospital. Along with fellow DAR members, she is dedicated to helping our Veterans and our military troops serving in Afghanistan.
Pat was selected as one of the 2009 PEOPLE SCENE’S “People of the Year” and recently was selected to be a member of the 2011 Montgomery County Performing Arts Society’s Mardi Gras Court, which highlights outstanding volunteers in Montgomery County each year. Pat and Ted Spackey celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in 2011 and are blessed with three children and eight grandchildren. She is humbled and deeply honored to represent the descendants of Charles B. Stewart when she unveils the Bronze Bust at the entrance to the Lone Star Monument and Historical Flag Park.
