I am a 6th Generation, Native Texan, a member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, Lone Star Chapter #58 in Montgomery County, and also a member of the San Jacinto Descendants organization. My ancestors came to Texas in 1832 where my Great- Great- Great Grandfather was a Capt. of a Ranging Company from the Fayette County area. He was ordered to bring his Ranging Company to the Texian Camp at Harrisburg and he brought the largest single family group to the Battle of San Jacinto- 5 brothers, 4 nephews and his own father and brother in law. In total 11 members, 9 with the same last name, Townsend.
Of that group, one member was my G-G-G Uncle Joel Walter Robison who was one of the three men who captured the escaping Mexican General Santa Anna. Joel was the only one who spoke any Spanish and saved the prisoner’s life by allowing him to ride double on his own horse as he returned to the Texian Camp and turned him over to Gen. Sam Houston.
I am also a member of the Lone Star Volunteers, a group of friends, also members of the SRT, who own the Rolling Thunder Cannon. We maintain the cannon and show it at various historical events around the State. We have all been trained in Artillery Safety Regulations to become Certified Cannoneers where we are allowed to fire on State and Federal Park land and properties.
I have worked in the Construction Industry for more than 37 years and own a small business that designs and sells Concrete Production equipment throughout Texas. I have lived and worked in the Conroe area for the past 11 years. My wife, Mary, and I have three children and 5 grandchildren, some of whom also participate in these Historical organizations and events. We come from a very colorful and proud Texas family and we
